IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE PALACE OF CORTES



is the oldest civil construction which is preserved in Mexico because its history dates back to more than 450 years since the conquest of Cortés in the year 1521.

the property has had changes and has served to various destinations.

among them are the following:

* in
its first colonial stage was the residence of conquistador Hernán Cortés and his wife Juana Zúñiga, who gave birth in this place the son of
name Captain Martín, character that years later was accused of plotting against the King.

* from 1747 to 1821, he served as a prison and it was hosted on quality of inmate, José María Morelos y Pavón

* in
1855, was the seat of the provisional Governm
ent of the Republic of Juan Álvarez against Santa Anna

* between
1864 and 1866 was fitted as official Office of Archduke Maximilian, due to his frequent visits to Cuernavaca

* finally
restored the Republic in 1872 the Cortés Palace hosted the Governm
ent of the new elected state of Morelos, role that played until it was converted into the present Museum.
